Wish List Indulgence – Benefit Most Glamourous Nudes Ever

A few days ago I found myself at the Benefit counter in Debenhams while waiting for my mum. I posted last week about Benefit’s Most Glamourous Nudes Ever, one of their World Famous Neutrals Kits. I saw, I swatched, I purchased. I’m not even going to make excuses, I resisted for all of 9 minutes before I allowed the sales assistant to convince me I needed this palette. I clearly have no self control this week.

On the way to the till I was accosted by the lady at the CK One counter (Calvin Klein’s new beauty range) and after swatching 6 shades, I came home with a nude gloss in the shade Tender ( like i said, NO self control!). I took the following images in natural light and they’re unedited so hopefully they’re a good representation of the shades. Here are my swatches:

The CK One gloss looks quite deep in the tube but on the lips it’s a quite sheer pinky nude. The formula wasn’t at all sticky which really pleased me as I can’t stand sticky lip products. Your hair gets stuck to your face and it’s generally gross.

As for the Benefit shadows, I’m a little disappointed. While the colours are pretty, unfortunately the colour payoff isn’t great. They shades come off quite sheer and I had to build each swatch up four times to achieve the opacity in the photo above. Maybe I’ve become spoilt with the fantastic pigmentation offered from other high end brands but for the price of this palette I really expected more. There’s so many high street or drug store brands like Sleek and MUA that are able to offer highly pigmented shadows for a relatively low cost, i’m disappointed that Benefit couldn’t offer better pigmentation for the price point.

As for the shades themselves, the first, Call My Buff, is a shimmery pale champagne. This is so close to my skin tone that it’s barely noticeable on me. I think it will be beautiful on any skin tone darker than mine but it’s still a pretty highlight shade.

Kiss Me, I’m Tipsy is a described as a ‘spiced brown’ by Benefit. It looks a little muddy in the photograph but is beautiful on the skin.

It’s Complicated is a beautiful peachy pink with a slight golden shimmer. I’m not usually a fan on pink shadows but this is a gorgeous colour that works really well with the other shades in the palette.

Gilt-y Pleasure is a stunning warm gold with a subtle shimmer that’s very wearable for day time. This shade is my favourite in the palette and I’ve been using this with Kiss Me I’m Tipsy for a few days now and `i’m not bored yet.

The image above shows the two creaseless cream shadows in the palette. The first, Birthday Suit, I already own in it’s full size. It’s a gorgeous neutral shade and very wearable alone. My Two Cents is a lovely copper that fits nicely with the other shades in the palette. I wouldn’t wear it alone as it’s a bit too bright in my opinion but its lovely when paired with Birthday Suit. The formulation of these bases is fantastic, they blend well and have great pigmentation and staying power.

Overall I’m happy with both of these products and I’ll definitely get lots of use out of both, I just wish the Benefit shadows were slightly more pigmented.

February Wish List

Hi everyone! since I love reading wish list posts I thought I’d share the things I’ve been lusting after this month. This is by no means a comprehensive list, there are so many things I’d like to buy! Here are a few of my favourites:

First up, the Glinda palette from Urban Decay; one of two palettes released from UD’s recent collaboration with Disney. The palette contains 8 gorgeous shades, all of which are very wearable,  a purple 24/7 glide on eye pencil and a full size super saturated high gloss lip colour in the brand new shade Naked. I can see myself using everything in this palette and for £35 it’s an absolute bargain. Considering Urban Decays eyeshadows retail for £14 a piece, the 6 shadows alone have a value of £84! The glide on eye pencil and full sized gloss add appeal to an already great value palette. I love a bargain and this palette has really captured my attention! If you’re in the UK, the Glinda palette can be purchased from the Debenhams website.

I really liked this beaded cord bracelet when i saw it on Topshop’s website. While something like this can easily be made at home, the fact that it was on sale from £15.00 to £4.50 made me like it even more… i see a money eating pattern emerging here!

If I could only have one item from this list it would have to be the Illamasqua nail varnish in the shade Speckle.  I mean who wouldn’t want nails that look like mini eggs?! Quite simply I think all the specked polishes from the I’mperfection collection are gorgeous but if I had to choose then Speckle would be my pick. I could go on about how being a pastel shade, Speckle is perfect for spring blah blah blah. Really I just want it because it’s purple and spotty, to add to my ridiculous collection of all things purple and polka-dotty (yes that’s a word).  At £14.50 it’s definitely on the pricey side in my opinion. I never finish a nail polish so I cant usually justify spending that much on one colour but i can honestly see myself using this again and again. I may have to buy this, I keep putting in my online basket then closing the window. Just writing this post is really testing what self restraint I have! Speckled can be purchased from illamasqua.com and debenhams.com.

The Expert Face Brush by Real Techniques is the only brush in the collection that isn’t sold in the two Boots local to me. This frustrates me to no end as it’s the only one I really want to purchase. I’m a big fan of the Sigma kabuki brushes for applying foundation but after reading countless positive reviews i’d really like to give this a try. This brush is completely cruelty free and retails for £9.95 from cocktailcosmetics.co.uk

Finally on my wish list this month is the ‘most glamourous nudes ever, world famous neutrals kit’ which in my opinion is a ridiculously long-winded name for an eyeshadow palette, but I digress. As a huge benefit fan, I have the irrational need to own every kit or palette they produce except the ‘how to look the best at everything’ kits which had a pitiful shade range. The 3 new neutral eye palettes all have really pretty shades in both the shadows and creaseless creams but I feel that this palette contains shades I’d most likely use. while i already own the creaseless cream birthday suit, i love the convenience of having a base and a quad of complimenting colours in one palette. I’m often rushing out the door and this is great to pop in your bag. While this kit doesn’t scream ‘take me home, you need me, no now!’ like the Glinda palette, I’d still quite like to own it, and there’s nothing wrong with wanting…

So those are my most wished for items for February. If I post a haul featuring these items you’ll know I couldn’t resist!
